Small Business Achievement Thinking Through Trust
-
By Mark Mikelat
Your clients need to trust you. The need for trust is a business principle that is inviolate. Small business leaders can live and die by their reputation. You want to be known as a small business that people can trust. Developing trust in your client relationships is a great way to grow your small business.
Create a situation of trust in everything about your business. Mean what you say and do what you say. There is far too much exaggeration in the world. While you certainly should emphasize the positive aspects of your products, you should never, ever, misrepresent anything about your products.
Let me provide you a quick example. At times I have the need to work with vendors and partners in the growth of my own business. Sometimes, they might not have the perfect skills, experience, or information that we need. Some potential partners will promise everything, even when they have no knowledge or experience. I do not like these people and do the best I can to avoid them. However, I have great respect for the people who can speak to how they can meet my needs and explain what their own weaknesses are.
This demonstrates honesty. I need a partner whom I can trust. I need to be able to rely on them and trust that they will meet their expectations and commitments to my company and me. Adapt this philosophy into your daily business practices.
Focus on building trust in all of your client engagements. Your products should work as advertised. Your policies should be carried out is promised. Agreements should be adhered to.
Trust builds customer loyalty. Building trust with your clients is a powerful strategy to help grow your small business.
